15 Days and 1,825 Nights Journey| @PROYECTOVINO

Aracely narrates how a simple conversation about Hugo D'Acosta led her to discover the depth of her passion for wine and the culture of Baja California. From remembering the rich history of the D'Acosta family to attending the premiere of “Surgencia”, a documentary that captures the essence of the region, Aracely takes us on an emotional and artistic journey.

The other day my brother asked me who Hugo D'Acosta was. This is because they gave him a wine from Casa de Piedra. Since I like to be asked about my favorite topic. I told him the whole story, from when Hugo arrived in Baja California, and I ended up telling him “and Julia his youngest daughter is an extraordinary surfer”. I hadn't realized all the facts you can have in your head about something that you're passionate about. Because during the talk, all the wineries and projects where the heart of this family of artists has passed through came out. This past Saturday I was able to learn one more facet. It's very, very exciting to receive invitations from such creative and dream-boosting people to relevant events. Dani D'Acosta invited us to the premiere of “Surgence”, a film/documentary of which she is the producer.

They sent me the invitation and without much idea what we were going for, we arrived. We don't ask who or how that place was selected. But without a doubt, it was the first success and applause of the night. An industrial hangar-type warehouse with a reception catwalk with stations for oysters, sandwiches and of course wine, which led to the red carpet, which led to one of the best events so far this year.

After greeting many friends, wine producers and chefs, we entered “Surgence”. To be honest, we have never heard or seen this word written, (you always learn something). Its definition is, “The movement of deep water to the surface”.

But for its creators it is much more than that. It's a love letter to Baja California. It is a tribute and a tribute to the traces and scars that La Baja has received and left us.

Surgence is the result of a trip to Baja that Hugo D'Acosta and Benito Molina, this pair of legends and “companions”, took in 2019. The adventure began in Ensenada, his “adopted hometown” and ended in San Ignacio. “15 days and 1,825 nights?” sounds weird. But when Alejandro Montalvo, director of Emergency, explained it to us, it all made sense: “The film was shot during a 15-day trip, but for me, that trip lasted 5 years. This project was atypical and unique, because we didn't know we were making a film until we discovered in the editing room that we had enough material to tell something truly significant. Surgence, for me, represents the transformative energy of movement: The act of traveling, meeting others, stopping for a moment and realizing the irreparable imprint that our humanity leaves on this world.”

We are not sure where and when we will be able to see Surgence, but keep an eye on social networks. In the end and before we left, seeing a sincere and authentic fusion of the D'Acosta-Ramos and Molina-Muris families, together with all those who accompanied them from the heart, the Badan, Plata, Cruz and many others, confirmed the concept that “Emergence is also family”.

Congratulations to the entire production and thank you again for inviting us on this journey that hasn't ended yet, or better yet, it's just beginning!
